Unisex Fashion: Decryption of A Phenomenon

Unisex fashion continues to confirm its status as a must-have trend. Fashion, fashion, fashion, fashion, fashion, fashion, fashion, and fashion. Decryption of this trend which is not ephemeral.

Beyond an ugly perishable trend, unisex fashion is indicative of a total detachment of codes for a successful mix of genres. The neutral locker makes its revolution in the world and this is only the beginning.

Unisex fashion, a must-have trend

The fashion no gender settled for several seasons with the fashion trends. The greatest fashion designers are removing the barriers between men and women to allow the neutral locker to go down the street.

The absence of gender and rule release fashion and gives birth to the dressing without constraint. From the trend of boyfriend jeans to the craze around oversized fashion, the women's wardrobe is full of key pieces of the male dressing room. The genres become entangled and become one.

As early as the 1960s, the androgynous icon Twiggy appropriated the codes of men's fashion. Just like Coco Chanel who makes the boyish look her creed, against the current ultra-feminine silhouettes of the time.

The genres become entangled and become one.

Yves Saint Laurent adopts the tuxedo, a typically masculine piece, with feminine silhouettes. This structured and timeless piece gives a fire character to the female dressing room.

If from an early age, fashion tends to divide genres, the big names in fashion struggle to change the game. In men, the skirt stands out as the centerpiece of the Jean Paul Gaultier fashion shows and more recently,  Thom Browne. Jaden Smith also wears this iconic piece of women's wardrobe for Louis Vuitton's spring-summer 2016 campaign.

Unisex fashion brands

Unisex fashion is a chameleon that stands out in the collections of the ready-to-wear giants as well as on the catwalks of Fashion Week shows.

The iconic sportswear brand, Lacoste, recently announced the launch of a unisex collection of polos, sports pants, fashion shoes, and fashion accessories.

Zara indulged in unisex fashion for a collection called "Ungendered". On the side of the Swedish giant H & M, a denim collection released in 2017 allowed playing the card of the mix. On the program: denim jackets, trendy overalls, and basic t-shirts.

New brands, more intimate, land on the fashion market with no gender clothing lines. This is the case of Selected People or Au Juste who rely on the neutral locker room for their collections.

On the podium of Fashion Week, unisex fashion is queen. Maison Margiela, Louis Vuitton or Vivienne Westwood, the biggest names in fashion.
